Some in the tech world might have noticed the increasing buzz about the internet of things (IoT).  With the new year, predictions are that 2017 will be the year of system integration which will further help the IoT become an integral part of the world of technology.

From smart vehicles that generate alerts to hospitals monitoring and adjusting smart pacemakers within their patients, the sensors and gadgets that make up the IoT are just beginning to have an impact upon information technology.  Cities are beginning to take advantage of IoT sensors that monitor water and electrical usage, and electric companies are leveraging sensors and predictive analytics to reduce unplanned downtime and help make their generating facilities more efficient.  It is becoming clear that IoT devices are poised to take everyday life for individuals and organizations to a new level in 2017 and beyond.

Of course, a crucial step is integration of all the data gathered from the various sensors, gadgets, etc. into current systems to enable organizations to get a snapshot of all their processes for a complete data analysis.  Organizations will need to focus on creating the necessary technology infrastructures to handle data from a variety of sources, followed by analytical tools that can provide an organized view of the data for visualization and modeling.  Lastly, current applications will need to be modified or perhaps new ones created in order to provide a complete picture of organizational data.
