The Acumos Project: The Future of AI Applications and Services
Artificial intelligence adoption and use in the market is limited certain companies. Data scientists are the major users. To reduce this barrier, The Linux Foundation has launched a new Project, The Acumos Project. This is an open source framework aimed at accelerating the deployment of AI by making applications and micro-services accessible to everyone. Artificial Intelligence is a critical tool in the field of technology and business, yet there aren't many innovative solutions on the market.
Creating an Industry StandardThe project will address the lack of an industry standard that other AI enthusiast can use in creating more innovative solutions. This platform will overcome challenges of accessibility and exposure by enabling developers to share their ideas freely, but the initial goal is in making applications and creating micro-services that are easily reusable. It's open source nature will, therefore, attract developers from various industries interested in AI but mostly targeting the technology, media, and telecom space.
For now, AT&T and India's Tech Mahindra are the only contributors focussing on the governance and structure of the project, and they will provide code until other organizations come on board after its launch early 2018.
It is easy to look at this project as another AI toolkit, but contrary to that, it is part of a broader movement aimed at providing exposure to developers and creating a user-centered platform. This platform will reduce the reliance of most IT developers on existing market giants that provide AI models. Eventually, it will lead to the development of a new industry based on AI software.
