What Is A "Trend" Really?

When looking for current trends in the programming industry, it''s important to understand that the term "trend" is subjective to the user base. There are different programming languages available today, that are capable of doing anything the user can imagine. Some such as C and Java create what we see on our phones and computers every day, like apps and office suites. Others, such as Nvidia''s Cuda are applied for general computing rather than any specific task. Languages like C+ and Java, are put into application more and more as technology has advanced in the past few years and here is where we can find a trend.

Rise Of The Smartphone

In the past, phones were simply for making calls and writing the occasional text message. These days, phones typically contain our entire life''s. We''re capable of sending e-mails, using spread sheets, and booking appointments, all from a wallet sized device we keep in our pockets. Java, C, and C+ are the languages used to develop the Android OS and almost all of its apps.

The Apple iPhone, as well as its watches and computer operating systems, now run on Swift. Swift was first implemented in June of 2014 and works seamlessly with C, C+ and Objective-C. Swift is now an open source platform and with Apple being such a widely used platform these days, it would be safe to assume that following the use of the C class family of programming will always be a safe bet.
